The Johnson & Johnson Shot Will Expand Access To The COVID-19 Vaccine in Arizona
March 04, 2021

There will now be three COVID-19 vaccines making rounds in the US. A recent article by 12 News Titled "
Arizona Counties Plan to Expand Access to COVID-19 Vaccine with Johnson & Johnson Shot" reported that a new vaccine shipment is expected to reach Arizona in early March after the Food and Drug Administration granted Emergency Use Authorization to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
While anticipating new distribution plans for the vaccine, Arizona health officials wonder about the possible allocation of future doses. Pima County Health Director Dr. Theresa Cullen acknowledged the vaccine's potential to help the most marginalized segments of the community but clarified that all plans would depend on the number of doses allotted to their supply.
Dr. Cara Christ, director of the Arizona Department of Health Services, talked about some of the logistical benefits that could help the process along, starting with the possibility of refrigerating vaccine doses. "This will be a great thing for doing mobile vaccination, especially out in rural communities you only have to go once and you are considered a completed dose," she said. As of now, the state health department expects the arrival of 50,000 to 60,000 vaccine doses.
Unlike the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine requires a single shot to provide 85% immunity against severe COVID-19 disease. Health officials, however, have been adamant about encouraging the population to get whichever vaccine is more accessible to them.
