January 12, 2021

A recent FOX 10 News article titled "
Arizona Reports Record Deaths, Leads Nation in New Case Rate" reported the case numbers for January 5th, with Arizona breaking a new record of deaths as infection rates continue to climb.
Arizona revealed some alarming numbers last Tuesday, reporting 5,932 new cases and 253 additional deaths, which is currently showing the highest rate of COVID-19 infections nationwide. According to the Department of Health Services, 215 of the newly reported deaths correspond to regular evaluations of autopsies and death certificates, so it's difficult to specify when they took place.
The new surge of cases became evident between Sunday and Monday, with a concerning increase of hospitalizations and a new record of 1,096 patients being admitted to intensive care units. With Arizona's hospitals getting closer to their limits, health authorities are urging the population to do their part to stop the crisis. Annmarie Alameddin, President of the Arizona Hospital Association, addresses the inescapable fact that healthcare workers are struggling after months of fighting the pandemic. She appeals to people's sense of social responsibility, stating, "We need business, school districts, and everyday Arizonans to take action in their circle and mitigate and flatten this curve."
As of now, the state of Arizona counts a total of 567,474 cases, 9,317 deaths, and an average of 1 out of 126 people testing positive for COVID-19.
